The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread
The Best Thing (in the last 30 years!) Since Sliced Bread
by John Saysell (Director of Technical Training) and friends!
In 1997, I commenced my tenure at Langcet, a company specialising in mechanical to electrical conversion training. Fast forward to 2025, and at MCP, our core training offering remains mechanical to electrical conversion.
This programme equips learners with practical industrial electrical skills, enabling them to competently perform high-frequency, low-risk electrical tasks - addressing 80% of breakdowns with 20% of the skills.
A Proven Track Record
The sustained success of this programme can be attributed to several key factors:
Why the Programme Works
Hands-On Practical Content
The course emphasises extensive practical application, ensuring learners gain real-world experience.
City & Guilds Accreditation
Our programme is recognised for its quality and adherence to industry standards.
Flexible Delivery Options
Training is available at our centres in Reading and Solihull or can be conducted on-site at client locations.
Expert Trainers
Our instructors are highly regarded, fostering an engaging and effective learning environment.
Diverse Trainee Profiles
The course suits instrument technicians, plumbers, robot technicians, technical operators, refrigeration technicians, mechanical technicians, facilities technicians, and more.
Wide Industry Relevance
The training is pertinent to sectors such as utilities (notably water and power), facilities management, distribution warehouses, automotive, data centres, building products, engineering, pharmaceutical, chemical, and rail.
The Need Has Never Been Greater
Several contemporary factors continue to drive the demand for this training:
Industrial Electrical Skills Shortage
There is a significant deficit of qualified professionals in the field.
Workforce Demographics
Between 2018 and 2026, 19.5% of UK engineers and technicians are projected to retire.
Post-Brexit Workforce Shifts
A notable number of European technicians have returned to their home countries following Brexit.
Apprenticeship Challenges
There are low initiation and completion rates for maintenance apprenticeships, with limited exposure to three-phase practical work.
Productivity Imperatives
To maintain global competitiveness, UK industries must enhance productivity.
Listening to Industry, Evolving the Course
In the autumn of 2022, we conducted a comprehensive survey among our clientele to identify potential enhancements to the course. Our leading trainers - Matt, Mark, Andre, and Colin - collaborated to integrate these insights.
This initiative led to the redesign of training rigs, procurement of new motors, inverters, contactors, and starters, and the revision of course materials.
The updated programme now offers an even greater emphasis on practical training. To find out more please click here to visit our page on electrical skills training.
